What better way to spend Labor Day than playing grass volleyball in Berkeley? Furthermore, food (breakfast and lunch) and drinks (water, juice and gatorade) will be provided at this volleyball & picnic event.
The format for this Monday (9/6) will be Hybrid Unisex Reverse-Coed 2s & 4s (aka "VBmatch Survivor"). It is a very fun, social and competitive format with lots of opportunity to meet and play with other volleyball players!
What is Reverse-Coed?
Reverse-coed games are played on a women's regulation height net. Women play as usual - hitting and blocking at the net. Men, however, must hit from behind the 10-foot-line and may never block. This format levels the playing field - making the game fun for both men and women. Click here for Reverse-Coed Doubles Rules.
What is VBmatch Survivor?
VBmatch Survivor is a HYBRID Unisex Reverse-Coed 2s and 4s format. You sign up as a pair with a partner of any gender. That person will be your permanent partner for the day. Half of the pool-play games will be Reverse-Coed 2s, where you and your partner are a doubles team. The other half of pool-play games will be Reverse-Coed 4s, where another randomly selected pair will become your teammates (the other pair is randomly selected and changes for each pool-play quads game).
Your pool-play results determine your ranking as a pair. The first half of playoffs will be R-Coed 4s. Quad teams are formed by pair selection, starting with the #1 ranked pair who may choose any pair including the #2 pair. The selection process goes down the list from there: the next highest ranked pair that has not been picked then chooses their teammates and so on.
Single-elimination R-Coed 4s competition is played until there are only a few quad teams left. At that point, the quad teams revert back to their original pairs; former teammates must now play against each other in R-Coed 2s competition. Thus, it would be unwise to choose a pair that is much better than you -- while they may carry you through the quads competition, a much better pair would likely eliminate you in the first round of doubles competition. Single-elimination R-Coed 2s competition will be used to determine the sole surviving pair - the winners of the VBmatch Survivor event.
Each pair will be scheduled for a minimum of 4 pool-play (round-robin) games. All pairs will advance to playoffs.
Playoff Winners (the last surviving pair) will receive Restaurant Gift Certificates.
